Linux and Networking

2.1 What is a data network?

In general, a data network could be defined as the infrastructure that enables various devices to exchange data with each other, connected to some physical medium that allows the transmission of data. The devices that are part of the network are also called nodes. As for the physical media through which the data travels, these can be guided media (such as the classic copper cable or fiber optics), or electromagnetic waves transmitted through the air can be used.
